n total, twelve people have been arrested as suspects of taking part in the kidnapping of William Sean Creighton, businessman and owner of 5Dimes Sportsbook, 9 of them in Costa Rica and the others 3 in Zaragoza, Spain, all of them of Costa Rican nationality. Walter Espinoza, director of the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ), provided in a statement all the details related to this case, and explained that the first trace they had was a “digital footprint” created when the main suspect, a 25-year-old computer engineer of last names Morales-Vega, opened the bitcoin e-wallet from his residence in Cartago.
“This was the most important trail that we used to guide the investigation and begin connecting the people that participated in the crime. Through this we were able to connect the rest of the events”, explained Espinoza.
Morales-Vega, then left the country through the Panama boarder and then traveled to El Salvador, then Cuba and finally Spain in the company of his wife and mother who were also involved in the kidnapping.
According to Spanish authorities, the three suspects changed residency several times, they paid high amounts in rent (close to $3,300.00 USD), usually paid cabs for transportation, gave “erroneous” contact information, and apparently were in the process of buying a sports car.
In addition to Morales-Vega, his wife and his mother, another two of his family members were involved, his grandmother and his uncle along with two traffic police (Transito), and other 5 people.
The three people detained in Spain are in the process of being transferred back to Costa Rica for due processing.
At this point authorities have no information on the location or wellbeing of Sean Creighton.
